Open to women and men, medical aesthetic treatments play a major role in getting patients to accept the new, sometimes transformed bodies that the illness may have made more sensitive.
Unlike aesthetic care treatments offered by beauty institutions, medical aesthetics involved holistic and personalized approach to the person that is integrated into his or her care plan.
Based on the care of the body (manicure, pedicure, corrective makeup, specific massages...), this approach brings an individualised response to patients that is tailored to their pains and their expectations.
It is now universally accepted that massages have numerous beneficial effects on cancer patients.
Different types of massage
Session lasting 60 minutes
Massotherapy or massagetherapy is a relaxation technique based on the soothing motions of rocking, manipulation and gentle stretching. It is practised wearing comfortable clothing, with the practitioner getting the patient to let go and allow the whole body to relax.
The sitting massage is practised fully clothed on a comfortable ergonomic chair. Specific manipulations of the upper back, the nape, the arms and shoulders aim to relax the person all over while soothing particularly tensed-up areas.
Touch-massage of the hands, the feet and the face is an essential tool for communicating, supporting and relaxing, helping people in difficulty to accept their bodies and to regain the notions of pleasure and comfort by rediscovering pleasant physical sensations.
Rediscover the pleasure of a comfortable back and legs in a relaxed position either sitting or lying on one’s side. Relaxing music, use of high quality massage oil.
Scientifically demonstrated benefits
The advantages of massage therapy for people suffering from cancer have been proven scientifically. This has been demonstrated in particular in a wide-ranging study carried out by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New-York among 1,290 patients who reported a nearly 50% reduction in their pains and ailments on a predefined scale. The authors of the study were surprised to find that the relief of tiredness, nausea and anxiety lasted for a period of 48 hours after the massage.
The psycho-oncologists of the Mimi Ullens Foundation are the people most suited to help patients face up to the different problems with which they find themselves frequently confronted :
A support over time
The need for help can be seen in all stages of the illness, but also and often after the treatment has ended. Which is why the support provided by the Foundation continues for up to six months after the chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment has stopped.
And one’s friends and family in all that ?
Friends and family can also experience great psychological suffering when they learn that someone they love is in danger.
The psycho-oncologists of the Mimi Ullens Foundation are also the people most suited to answering the many questions that friends and family often ask :How to imagine the future ? How to behave with someone close to one when they are ill ? Should one goad them into action or allow them to “retreat into their shell” ? How to manage one’s own fears of the illness ?
The Mimi Ullens Foundation's mission is to offer cancer patients the best care possible. To do that the Foundation regularly brings itself up to date on measures that have proved themselves in the field of therapeutic well-being and, where necessary, trains the professionals in its team in how to use them.
