The UZ Leuven consists of several different hospitals: UZ Gasthuisberg, UZ Saint-Rafaël, UZ Saint-Pieter, UZ Pellenberg and UMC Saint-André in Lubbeek.

The daycare department oncology of the UZ Leuven Hospital treats 150 to 180 patients per day.

Establishment of the Mimi Foundation

The well-being center of the Mimi Foundation is housed in the oncology daycare department.

This center includes a waiting room, a room for the psychologist and a room for the beautician.

The Mimi Foundation also has an additional room on the top floor, provided by the hospital, so the psychologist can meet patients there who cannot get their treatment in the daycare department.

HADI WAELKENS - PSYCHOLOGIST

Hadi Waelkens has a degree in Clinical Psychology, and specialises in family care at the KU Leuven. She expanded her education with a degree in Family Sciences. Hadi began her career as a psychologist in 2004, at the University Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Antwerp (UCKJA). In 2005 Hadi joined the research department of the University Leuven, where she fulfilled tasks for the Psychotherapy Centre for students and the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences.

Hadi began new research in 2007, this time for the fertility center at the University of Leuven and the Center for Biomedical Ethics University Leuven. In 2008 Hadi decided to join the Mimi Foundation in order to use her vast experience to benefit the wellness center within the UZ Leuven.

GWENN MICHIELSEN - BEAUTICIAN

After her degree in Food Science and Diet (2005) Gwenn Michielsen did an internship at the UZ Gasthuisberg Leuven where she worked with cancer patients. She decided to focus her professional career on the support of people who suffer from this disease and she began training in beauty care, podiatry and massage. Today Gwenn offers her experience to patients by giving them relaxing massages, facials and manicures and by advising them about makeup and skincare.
