The Mimi Foundation at the Hospital of 2 Alice

Presentation of the 2 Alice Hospital, Europe Hospitals

The Europe Hospitals are a merger of the St. Michel Hospital (Etterbeek, Brussels) 2 Alice and St. Elizabeth (located in Uccle, Brussels).

Since its creation in 2004 the Mimi Foundation launched its pilot project in the Europe Hospitals, specifically at the site of Alice 2.

This partnership originated from the shared vision of Myriam Ullens, President of the Mimi Foundation, and Myriam De Bie, Managing Director and General Manager of the Europe Hospitals, to assist each cancer patient as personally and humanely as possible.

Besides the basic services, Alice 2 focuses on chronic diseases (such as geriatrics, oncology, radiotherapy, renal dialysis, palliative care) and in short hospital admissions (one day) and in particular specialties for which less intensive medical care and permanence are required.

The Hospital's oncology daycare department Alice 2 treats 20 patients per day.

Establishment of the Mimi Foundation

The well-being center, which is housed in the Hospital of Alice 2, is an integral part of the oncology daycare department. The premises are ideally located next to the rooms where patients receive their treatment. A specific room was allocated for each of the services the Mimi Foundation offers.

SOPHIE LASSERRE - PSYCHOLOGIST

Sophie Lasserre studied Psychology at the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve.
During her studies, she worked with adults in Canada who were affected by degenerative diseases. From this experience grew her desire to continue to work with people who endure the ordeal of a disease.

HEIDI SEBRECHTS - PSYCHOLOGIST

Heidi graduated in June 2002 at Ghent University as a clinical psychologist, specializing in psycho-analytic physiotherapy and marital and family therapy. After a brief teaching assignment at a school with many disadvantaged children, she ended up more or less by chance in the world of health insurance.
For four years she was engaged in analyzing patient records. She then worked for two years as department head at the Belgian health insurance. Heidi began to long for more direct contact with patients in a psychotherapeutic context so she resigned and got started as a psychologist in the stress team of the zonal police in Brussels North.
Along with the officers there were also cancer patients and Heidi found working with them and their families particularly fulfilling. Therefore, after finishing this placement, she went to work for the Mimi Foundation in the oncology daycare clinic at 2 Alice.
