Nearly 15,000 patients each year, men and women whatever the type of cancer from which they suffer, benefit from the support offered by the Mimi Ullens Foundation.
The beauticians of the Mimi Ullens Foundation provide care and offer advice designed to alleviate the ill-effects of treatment:
Everything is done to provide the patient with a direct feeling of physical well-being, some repose, and to relieve tension thanks to relaxation and massage techniques.
The Mimi Ullens Foundation offers specific support or longer-term help in order to ward off or treat the psychological repercussions of the disease. The aim is help them and those close to them to cope when the going gets hard. It must be remembered that in addition to sadness, worry and denial, there are very few people who don’t also suffer from feelings of anxiety, blame, impotence or depression.
The Mimi Ullens Foundation also offers a range of hats and scarves to offset the loss of hair. Learning how to tie a scarf or a turban or choose a wig that goes with one’s face – the Foundation’s professional staff enable each patient to choose, in total privacy the solution that suits him or her best.
The Mimi Ullens Foundation creates Wellness Centres that are located within the oncology departments of its partner hospitals. It entirely renovates the premises in order to create an atmosphere of calm and warmth that is utterly different to that of a hospital. Spaces are entirely redecorated so that patients can feel they're at home, the aim being to help them refocus on their physical and mental well-being. The Foundation works with professionals who are specifically trained in caring for cancer patients. It operates in Belgium, France and Switzerland.
